Home is at the heart of all of our lives.
It’s the foundation on which we raise our families and pursue our dreams.
But for too many Victorians, the housing pressures they face are getting worse.
Our state is in the midst of a housing crisis.
More and more Victorians are unable to comfortably afford housing and the most vulnerable in our community are being pushed out of their homes altogether.
On any given night, almost 25,000 Victorians are homeless.
And another million are living in housing stress.
Right now, almost 58,000 adults and 25,000 kids are on the public housing waiting list in Victoria.
And despite this – for decades, successive governments have neglected to build more public housing.
We have the lowest proportion of public housing in all of Australia.
And the amount of properties has remained static for the last 20 years - leaving much of the run-down stock we do have beyond repair.
It’s not good enough.
The State Labor Government recently announced they would build 1,000 new public housing properties by 2022.
This is a good start but is no-where near enough.
With 500 applicants applying for public housing each month, a bigger build is needed.
We are seeking your support to help raise awareness of our state’s housing crisis and demand a long-term pipeline of public housing construction projects for Victorians in need.
